One way to avoid getting your mailing immediately thrown away is to have something extremely outside the norm. Take for instance a nice glossy postcard where one side has key critical information, nicely organized and formated and the other side is just well ugly. So ugly that it just sticks as something that is hard to forget.
Now what do you think will happen? The contacts that know you will be shocked enough to remember it and the next time you see them there will be discussion. The discussion will be about the postcard AND an open door to discuss the events.
For the contacts who don't know you the "ugly" postcard will stick in their head or even be shared and stay on their desk for a couple of days and the company will be remembered.
Now imagine if every other piece of marketing material that they receive is beautiful, perfect, painted with elements of unique design and creativity. The ugly postcard concept then comes full circle and is offset.
It is useful to also tell people which helps avoid all that unspoken.
I posted a bit yesterday about transparency and perhaps there is another key thing to keep in mind with regards to this.
Why is it that bloggers can post a misspelling and still retain a very active returning audience?
